Scarlet's father was killed by villagers shortly after she was born because of her odd appearance, and her Mother escaped carrying Scarlet in her arms into the forest. There her Mother found a small cabin stocked to fill their every need. The two of them lived there alone unbothered for 18 years. Scarlet was a good child but she was wild like the forest she lived in, so her Mother gave her the surname Nemain, for the Celtic Goddess of the Chaos of War. On the eve of Scarlet's 18th birthday she felt uneasy and went for a walk in the light of the full moon, she refuses to talk about what happened that night other than when she returned to the cabin it was in flames and three men were beating her Mother. Scarlet went into a rage killing two of the men and seriously injuring the third. Scarlet bent over her Mother to try and save her but the third bandit hit her over the head with a large log. When she regained consciousness her Mother was dead and she vowed never to rest till she found and killed that third man and she swore to travel the world not only searching for him but learning to fight so she would not rely on rage alone. Scarlet joined the Bloodsails for a short time which brought her to find a home and a family in Maethodoron. When the Bloodsails disbanded she was taken in as a retainer by Seamus McKellen of the Nightstalkers.
