Mercaine, one of the oldest vampires in the Yahen universe, traveled for several years through the Yahen realms of Jacmus, Aeynee, and Teneria. After several years of living amongst the patrons of Jacmus, Merc turned to his friend Suudan the Prophet and proposed a new realm formation. Suudan and Mercaine worked together combining their magical powers to meld the fabric of the realms together. The gap that was created between the bending of the realms was a tumultuous thread. They called is SuuMerc in remembrance of themselves.

However, the land of SuuMerc was short lived with peace. A rival smaller realm, yet another spin of Jacmus like themselves called Lucreria suddenly threatened it. The two realms warred for nearly a full year, the battle ended in great bloodshed and sadness as the Lucrerian high council was slaughtered in a sabotage move by Mercaine’s half brother Rastlin Meliciat. After this, Mercaine witnessed the fall of his comrade Suudan.

Mercaine was troubled by this and left the land of SuuMerc behind as it fell to the powers of evil and darkness controlled by the Soul Thief Darken Soulfire, soon to be Hellfire at the murder of an entire clan.

Merc left the realms of Yahen at this time and traveled to Demijoure. It was in Demijoure that that he was reacquainted with his friend Meroidoc Bodash. A fellow vampire lord from Yahen, Merc and Mero traveled together for quite sometime before Mercaine left the large clan led by Severious Persoin.

It was later that Mercaine traveled to the southern parts of the realm and made a home in the Kingdom of Galden. He became great friends with the Director of the Galden Institute and became a great student and teacher there. It was at that point in time Mercaine decided that his life was not complete by staying in one place. He realized that he had to travel around again.

However, the question was often posed while Mercaine lived in Galden Keep why he was a vampire yet lived with the living during the daytime and was not just a creature of the night. His answer as a long drawn out story. He had been born a Vampire Lord explaining his darker complexion and hair than other vampires, also his ability to change his skin tone and grow wings during certain magical peaks. However, he was still not invulnerable to the sun. While it did not have quite the effect on him as others, it still hurt greatly and would eventually weaken him to death.

So, Merc studied during the younger years of his life in Yahen to find a ring that would not hold sway to the sun’s power. The ring he found after 17 years of searching. It did hold the power that he had hoped for, however, the ring also quenched his normal vampire thirst for blood. While he still needs blood to survive, the ring subdued to a point the desire. He found that if he ever took off the ring the “bloodlust” would grow and become uncontrollable. Thus, he was never able to actually take the ring off after he put it on.

It was recently Merc traveled to the lands of Maethodoron and found a group of men and women, all common interest and fighters that he began to hold dearly as friends. He began to fight with them in battles to uphold their homelands, and traveled great distances to distant lands for a great war. It was during the great war Merc realized that he must band together with these people. He and they must come together to create a force that could withstand the attacks from outside nations, so they could finally live in peace.
